OUR HISTORY
The Ruidosa Ghost Town is close to Presidio, Texas - only 30 miles, and about 60 miles from Marfa.
The old La Junta General Store has been converted into a vacation rental. Old, historic, rustic - the property has most of the amenities one would expect in any house, but we decided to leave the space with the feel of an old general store. With this in mind the decor and surroundings are eclectic, with old furniture and historic photos of the region. If you are looking to embrace your inner redneck then come on down and relax by our cement pond ...
The pond is available separately for rental at times. See our Swimming page for more info.
The area was settled as early as 1824, and has had it's ups and downs. From our Big Bend rental house, you can see the Chinati mountains, and the Rio Grande, but you won't get cell service. That's a good thing every so often. We do have WIFI internet, and a landline phone.
Very close by you can see the iconic arches of the church.
2006 NYT article about MisiĆ³n del Sagrado Corazon, or Sacred Heart Mission
The Pastor of the Church lived nearby. We now offer it for $100/night, 2-night minimum.

Video with an Interview with Celia Hill who ran the General Store which is now the Inn.
The full video speaks to the long interdependence of communities on both sides of the river.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Bring your mountain bike, your road bike, your hiking boots, and your high clearance vehicle if you want to leave pavement.
Bring your swim suit too, or visit Mexico, safe and easy, and great food.
The area offers lots of historic ruins, river bottoms, mountains, and lots of space to explore and photograph. Day trips to Big Bend Ranch State Park, Big Bend National Park, Marfa, Donald Judd, Terlingua, Lajitas (golf) and ghost towns that go back to the early settlers of Texas.
Schedule a mountain bike tour, a river trip, a guided day hike, even an off-road ATV tour with the owner's adventure travel company.
For those that just want to get away from things for a bit, coffee or tea on the patio is pretty special.

Visitor Love
We loved our stay here!
Plenty of room for everyone. The artwork was very eclectic, inside and outside of the house. The views were amazing! The pool was divine, we hung out there swimming, sunbathing and making music. We loved our meals on the patio, prepared in the huge kitchen area, perfect for our family as we are foodies and love to cook and gather together in the kitchen. Lovely grounds covered in flowers after so many rains, beautiful! Just before dark Charlie took us up the hill behind the house where he showed us hundreds of Indian graves, I have never seen so many burial places in one area. They were over looking the Rio Grand which is just across the road from the house, and all the beautiful mountains. We fell in love with this house and the ghost town. We will come back!
